Who We Are?

CrossFit Octopus is not just a gym, but a diverse community including full-time moms, elite athletes, police officers, business executive, members of the military, etc. CrossFit workouts are comprised of constantly varied functional movements, such as pushing/pulling/squatting/lifting, executed at high intensity.

There are no machines at CrossFit Octopus. Instead, there are kettle bells, barbells, and a huge space outside for running, jumping, climbing, and throwing. Our workouts are scalable, which means completely new beginners and CrossFit elite athletes can complete the same workout with different modifications.

There are many areas of fitness where you will find great improvement once you start at CrossFit Octopus: strength, flexibility, stamina, endurance, speed, coordination, agility, and balance. CrossFit is for you if you want to get into shape, lost interest in your regular gym routine, looking to get faster or stronger in a sport you already do, or just want to look great for the summer!

Instructors

Team Octopus is home to top-notice trainers, top professional fighters, and motivated members who are excited to learn and share their Martial Arts and fitness experience. We have a great staff of some of the most sought after instructors in Atlanta who have years of professional industry experience. Besides their expertise, they’re the friendliest people around who understand that not everyone is a professional fighter and always try to cater their training techniques to each individual’s skill level. Kaitlynn (Panda) Anderson

Diego Saraiva - MMA, BJJ Kaitlynn (Panda) Anderson was introduced to CrossFit through a competition. Without previous experience, and being the only female to compete, she placed and won a membership to Extreme CrossFit. That was it though, she was hooked. There was never enough CrossFit so she was then mentored by her coach and went for the Level 1 Certification. It was still not enough, seeing the need for her female athletes, Coach Panda received her CrossFit Defense Certification from Tony Blauer himself. Having been with Extreme CrossFit for a year, it was a move back home that brought her to Georgia. Panda has been a Coach for over 2 years and an athlete for almost 3 and she still can't get enough CrossFit, taking advantage of every learning opportunity and is driven to one day obtain the prestigious CF-L4. Coach Panda is also part of a Barbell Club and competes in Olympic Lifting Meets. Kyle Waters

Kyle Waters found CrossFit in late 2011 on Youtube. He was that guy in the Globe Gym doing CrossFit, and soon thereafter, he found a box and the rest was history. His athletic background is in track and field on the D1 Collegiate level. The certifications that he holds are through USA track and field, USA weightlifting, and a L1 in CrossFit. Kyle has been coaching since 2014, with plans to further his certifications as well as his overall education and knowledge of fitness.

Niko Vandevoorde

Niko Vandevoorde Niko Vandevoorde loves all physical pursuits. Niko found CrossFit while training Gracie Jiu Jitsu in 2012 at UGA. His favorite workouts are anything outside involving old school grunt work. He competed at the Southeast "Dirty South" regionals in 2012 and 2014 and was a starting member of the Atlanta Assassins Grid league team in 2015. When not in the gym, Niko is a pilot based at our local PDK airfield. His favorite activity is spending time with his wife, daughter, their 3 dogs and 1 cat.

Huong Siegal

Diego Saraiva - MMA, BJJ At a friend’s urging, Huong finally tried out Crossfit.  She was hooked and never looked back.   She loved it so much that she wanted to share her passion for Crossfit with others and decided to get her Level 1.  Seeing how Crossfit transformed her strength and power, she loves to empower women to lift heavy to get stronger.  Huong’s background of lifting came from the bodybuilding world where she competed in figure competitions.  When she’s not coaching or doing a WOD, Huong’s other passions include rock climbing, mountaineering, yoga, skiing, mountain biking, backpacking, and any other sports that takes her outside.  Huong and her husband enjoy adventure travel and an active lifestyle together.  She started rock climbing because she had a fear of heights and that soon led to mountaineering.  Huong has been to Everest base camp and Kala Patthar in Nepal and summited Mount Aconcagua in December 2011 at 22, 841 feet for her honeymoon.  She was also the first Vietnamese person to accomplish this feat.   When she’s not active, she enjoys healthy cooking and baking.

Sam Godfrey

Sam Godfrey is a certified personal trainer and strength coach. He moved to Atlanta in 2000 and had a career in electronics but always desired to be in the fitness industry. His love for sports kept him active as an adolescent and continued up into college. Weight training came natural to him and it was something he enjoyed with his friends growing up. It started for him in seventh grade. Because of football, he was required to weight train during school. He joined the weightlifting team and started lifting after school during the fall and winter. He there learned his love for weightlifting. Under great coaching, Sam was disciplined in the techniques of power lifting and developed his skillset. He contributes these skills to his coaches during this period of time. Sam didn't stop there, he continued to educate himself and practice techniques to grow stronger. Powerlifting was his first endeavor into fitness. With everything, fitness evolves and demands trainers to stay up to date. Sam uses all types of methods to help his clients reach their goal all while being fun and enjoyable. In his free time, Sam enjoys outdoors activities, attending concerts and training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Getting Started

You can always read about CrossFit or hear about it from your friends, but you need to experience it yourself to actually know what it's all about! At CrossFit Octopus, we require new members to attend our Free Foundations Class, which we hold at our facility on Saturdays at 10am. Our coaches will work with you and provide intensive instruction so you become familiar with the proper techniques used during our workouts. Please arrive about 10 minutes before class! CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program. We have designed our program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.
The CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks. Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse, and randomized physical challenges. This fitness is demanded of military and police personnel, firefighters, and many sports requiring total or complete physical prowess. CrossFit has proven effective in these arenas.
Aside from the breadth or totality of fitness the CrossFit Program seeks, our program is distinctive, if not unique, in its focus on maximizing neuroendocrine response, developing power, cross-training with multiple training modalities, constant training and practice with functional movements, and the development of successful diet strategies.
Our athletes are trained to bike, run, swim, and row at short, middle, and long distances guaranteeing exposure and competency in each of the three main metabolic pathways.
We train our athletes in gymnastics from rudimentary to advanced movements garnering great capacity at controlling the body both dynamically and statically while maximizing strength to weight ratio and flexibility. We also place a heavy emphasis on Olympic Weightlifting having seen this sport’s unique ability to develop an athletes’ explosive power, control of external objects, and mastery of critical motor recruitment patterns. And finally we encourage and assist our athletes to explore a variety of sports as a vehicle to express and apply their fitness.
